Depth
This in response to the topic of the week, as listed on www.illustrationfriday.com
Incidentally, this is my first submission.
I've interpreted the topic quite literally. I am trying to determine a style for myself, so my focus is more on the object than the subject. I quite enjoyed doing this illustration.
Photoshop, a mouse and my imagination was employed in the execution of this.

This is cool...the island almost looks like a boat with a huge keel! I love how you've created two separate spheres...above water and underwater, and how the calm bird sitting on the island is in such contrast to the mermaids swimming about below. It even looks like there's a little city down there!
